Google, a highly reputed tech giant that provides all the internet related services and solutions, is growing with a rapid pace. With the introduction of a new company Alphabet, it is ready to spread its wings in some unexplored domains such as healthcare or life sciences. With the announcement of existence of Alphabet, in Google’s official blog, Google co-founder Larry Page also shown interest in life science. He wrote: “Alphabet is mostly a collection of companies. The largest of which, of course, is Google. This newer Google is a bit slimmed down, with the companies that are pretty far afield of our main Internet products contained in Alphabet instead. What do we mean by far afield? Good examples are our health efforts: Life Sciences (that works on the glucose-sensing contact lens), and Calico (focused on longevity).”

Google wants to traverse the endless pool of scope in biomedical field. It wants this subject to be more mainstream and believes that a combination of technology and medical expertise can benefit people amazingly.

Smart Glucose Sensing Contact Lenses

In its official blog Google mentioned that after the announcement of International Diabetes Federation that world is losing battle against diabetes, it thought of working on this project and it completely wants to change the way people manage their disease. Generally, glucose sensing includes regular visits to doctor or prick finger test, which are hectic and painful.

But, these new innovative lenses can help patients check their sugar levels regularly, simply by putting them on, with a tear. Tiny chips and sensors embedded between the two layers of a lens can measure glucose level with higher accuracy.

Thwart the Aging Process with Calico

Google has taken an initiative to fight against one of the mysteries of nature that is aging, by generating a separate research and development company, Calico. Run by the experts of different fields of science, the company is doing a great work to understand the biology processes behind aging.

Google joined hands with Johnson & Johnson to bring a revolution in the field of surgeries. They are planning to create robots, based on artificial intelligence for providing surgical assistance in operation theaters.
