Google Reader to be Retired

Approximately a year ago in July 2012, Google has announced that they will retire iGoogle in November 2013. And recently they made a statement that they are planning to remove the Google Reader in their latest ‘spring cleaning’ process. So, even if you love your favorite RSS reader, it will be turned off for good on July 1, 2013. At last, you left with few days to figure out where to get your feed fix next. Now this is a shocking news for many of us.

With this an announcement Google made a statement which explains the demise of this Reader:

We launched Google Reader in 2005 in an effort to make it easy for people to discover and keep tabs on their favorite websites. While the product has a loyal following, over the years usage has declined. So, on July 1, 2013, we will retire Google Reader. Users and developers interested in RSS alternatives can export their data, including their subscriptions, with Google Takeout over the course of the next four months”.

There are many people who simply love this tool including us. And giving adieu to this tool is really tough. Because of a simple reason behind this – It is convenient; when you want to use an iOS or any Android application, and you can simply open the RSS feeds directly by logging into the Google account, without calling it for to import the feeds or into OPML file. It is also an easy to use browser-based news aggregator which people find useful since they use so many different devices and gadgets at home as well as at work. In fact, it’s the only way they can keep up with the hundreds of sites they follow each day. Working on the reader from last 7 years and then abruptly saying goodbye to this favorite tool is not easy.

Anyways, what we are left with is in future some alternative or substitute may be launched which can replace this tool. Reader is a vital tool which is used in day to day life of many of us. In our opinion, if Google is trying to push Google+ in the market and trying to make it popular in this section; well clearly they have chosen a wrong path.
